DESCRIPTION
WHAT IS CONCERTA?
Concerta also known as methylphenidate is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control.
USES
Concerta tablets are used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in adults and children 6 years of age and older.
This drug should be taken by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. Taking this medication late in the day may cause trouble sleeping (insomnia).
Swallow this drug with a full glass of liquid (8 ounces/240 milliliters). please Do not crush or chew this medication. Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects. Also, do not split the tablets unless they have a score line and your doctor or pharmacist tells you to do so. Swallow the whole or split tablet without crushing or chewing.
Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your doctor may direct you to gradually increase or decrease your dose. Also, it will be a good idea to contact your doctor if you intend to stop medication.
If you suddenly stop using this medication, you may have withdrawal symptoms. To help prevent withdrawal, your doctor may lower your dose slowly.
SIDE EFFECTS
Some side effects might be noticed from taking this drug, which may include:
- Nervousness
- trouble sleeping
- loss of appetite
- weight loss
- dizziness
- nausea
- vomiting or
- headache may occur.
If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
You may notice an empty tablet shell may appear in your stool. This effect is harmless because your body has already absorbed the medication.
This drug may affect your blood pressure so its always advisable to check your blood pressure regularly and tell your doctor if the results are high.
PRECAUTIONS
Before administering methylphenidate, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to dexmethylphenidate; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Consult to your pharmacist for more details.
OVERDOSE
If you overdosed your self and have serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call for the attention of your doctor.
Symptoms of overdose may include:
- vomiting
- agitation
- confusion
- sweating
- flushing
- muscle twitching
- hallucinations
- seizures
- loss of consciousness.
